Metadata Explorer for Tableau
Explore your Tableau site's metadata, run governance analyses and GraphQL queries, and learn the Metadata API β all in one place. Pick an area below to begin.
Connect to your Tableau site to unlock Governance, Query Builder and Interactive Search. The API Guide is available without connecting.
Governance
Pre-built site-health analyses: inventory, certification readiness, stale content, description coverage, duplicate fields, and more.
Requires a connected site
Query Builder
Write and run GraphQL against the Metadata API in an embedded editor, or generate a query from a plain-English question.
Requires a connected site
Interactive Search
Ask a question in plain English. The app builds a multi-step REST + GraphQL plan, runs it, and shows the results.

Compares descriptions between the REST API (source of truth) and the Metadata API (search cache).
Fixes re-write descriptions via REST for workbooks, and triggers re-indexing for datasources.
Groups workbooks into clusters based on shared upstream data tables (physical tables, published
datasources, and Custom SQL). Adjust thresholds to control how aggressively workbooks are grouped.
Set thresholds and click Analyze to find workbooks sharing upstream tables
Finds calculated fields that share the same upstream physical columns
AND are semantically equivalent (assessed by AI). Helps reduce duplicated
logic across workbooks and datasources.
